SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Expect to see the hottest temperatures so far this year at Lake Tahoe and much of the surrounding regions this weekend and into next week. There is a widespread moderate to major HeatRisk, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno. Sacramento will see highs near 100 while Reno has a week of 100+ temperatures in the forecast. With the heat, there is a chance of afternoon lightning in the Sierra and Western Nevada Saturday-Monday.

NWS Reno has issued a Heat Advisory from 11 a.m. Saturday to 11 a.m. Wednesday for the following areas:

In California, Surprise Valley. In Nevada, Northern Washoe County, Western Nevada Basin and Range including Pyramid Lake, Greater Reno-Carson City-Minden Area, and Mineral and Southern Lyon Counties

Lighter winds this weekend return to the usual SW/W afternoon breezes next week.

Expect some localized smoke and haze from Northern California and Southern Oregon fires. Air quality isn’t supposed to go below moderate, but for current readings, visit AirNow.
