SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Take a trip back in time with an engaging and entertaining look at Reno’s unique role in American divorce history at the Valhalla Boathouse Theater on July 16. Join local historians and authors David and Gayle Woodruff as they assume the fictive Reno Divorce Ranch characters of Clive and Vivian Sterling in “The Reno Cure.”
The free Chautauqua performance is at the Valhalla Boathouse Theater, starting at 7:30 p.m.. Reno has long been known as “The Biggest Little City in the World.” But it wasn’t just the introduction of legalized gambling in 1931 that brought the town its fame and notoriety. For the first half of the 20th century, hundreds of thousands of people came to the Truckee River town…as well as all of Western Nevada, to get a “quickie” dissolution to their marriage.
Join them as they recount the unique, interesting, and often amusing history of the Reno divorce industry and its divorce ranches.
No tickets are necessary. Seating is first come, first served.
Join the Woodruffs on Tuesday, July 15 for another free event at the Tahoe History Talks on the Beach at Lakeview Commons 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. In that living history performance they take on “Mysterious Scott, the King of the Desert Mines.” For more information, visit HERE.
