SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – With the rising cost of food and other basic daily needs, Bread & Broth’s (B&B) mission to ease hunger in the Lake Tahoe South Shore area is becoming more vital in helping the vulnerable members of our community.  In addition to the B&B 4 Kids program, Bread & Broth provides two hot meals weekly (Monday Meal and Second Serving), which are made possible by very generous donors, grants, and the Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) program.

B&B’s AAD program helps fund the Monday Meal, which over the last six months has seen guest attendance increasing, with some nights hosting over 135 dinner guests.  On Monday, July 14, the Monday Meal was sponsored by an anonymous donor who donated the $350 sponsorship fee.

Instead of the AAD host sending a sponsor crew, members of MountainHouse (formerly Lake Tahoe Christian Fellowship Church), Tom and Katie Mattis and Steve and Maureen Froyum, generously agreed to fill in as AAD crew members.  Both couples have volunteered on past AAD sponsorship crews and were delighted to be back helping the B&B volunteers at another Monday Meal.

With 130 dinner guests, it was a busy evening for all of the volunteers.  Bagging over 120 fresh fruit and vegetable ‘giveaway’ bags, manning the food service line, washing and drying trays, utensils, pots, and pans, and cleaning up after the meal, all in three hours, is tiring but exhilarating!  The smiles and the gratitude of those they served are great motivators.

“It truly was a joy to help and be the hands and feet of our Lord,” shared Maureen. “He instructed us to feed the hungry just as if we were doing it for him – Matthew 11:35.4.”

Thank you to our anonymous donor for their monetary generosity and to the Mattis and Froyum families for generously giving of their time and energy to help others.
