The Oak Fire has been burning east of the town of Midpines since Friday, July 22. To date, 18,824 acres have burned and firefighters have been able to put a containment line around 36 percent of the time. Most of this line is on the southwestern end of the fire where most of the populated areas are located.

An infrared flyover on Wednesday showed very little heat in and around communities within the fire perimeter. Crews continue to patrol these neighborhoods for hot spots. PG&E is working in the affected areas to remove hazards and repair infrastructure. The weather will be hotter and dryer for the next couple of days.

Helicopters dropped 250,000 gallons in Division J (see photo), the northeast side of the fire, to support crews on the ground building direct lines in extremely steep, rugged, and hazardous terrain. Three teams of Damage Inspectors continue to assess properties to determine the damage done to homes within the fire perimeter.

One hundred structures have been destroyed, 10 damaged. 3,758 personnel are assigned to the fire

There will be another community meeting on July 29 at 7 p.m. in the Mariposa County High School Gymnasium.

Smoke from the fire did not affect South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday. For a current smoke map, visit https://fire.airnow.gov/.
