SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Mother nature did not disappoint Tuesday as those looking to the west were treated by a beautiful sunset. These two shots were taken by South Lake Tahoe resident Scott Loberg from Regan Beach.

Another treat for those looking in the sky will be the Perseid meteor shower, active from mid-July to late August. It will be viewable in Lake Tahoe. The peak of the shower is predicted for August 11 and 12, with the best viewing opportunities likely in the early hours of the morning before dawn. The moon will be a waning gibbous, so blocking out the moon’s light may enhance viewing. Though the moon will be 50 percent illuminated at the time of the Perseids’ peak, it will set around midnight, so there will be dark skies until dawn — perfect for meteor hunting!
