Brad Deeds has been hired as the new Dean of Workforce Development and Instruction at Lake Tahoe Community College where he will manage the college’s various Career and Technical Education programs. Deeds will be over the Fire Academy, Culinary Arts, Commercial Music, Allied Health, the new Adult Education program, and other vocationally-focused departments on campus. He will also oversee workforce development and select instructional programs at LTCC.
The LTCC Board of Trustees gave approval for the hiring at their meeting on Tuesday night.
As State Director of Adult Education for the State of Nevada for the past six years, Deeds has managed programs in Adult Education, High School Equivalency, Distance Education, Alternative Education, and Corrections Education for Nevada’s Department of Education. Prior to that, Deeds managed the Workforce Development and Continuing Education divisions at Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno for six years, where he also served as an ESL adjunct faculty member and program coordinator. He was also the International Visitor Program Coordinator for the Northern Nevada International Center in Reno. He holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in English and Journalism from USC, and a Masters in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from UNR.
“We had an outstanding pool of candidates apply for this position, and it was a tough decision,” said Dr. Kindred Murillo, LTCC’s Superintendent/President. “Ultimately, Brad’s combination of credentials, education, and direct experience proved to be the right fit for LTCC, and we’re thrilled to have him join our community. He has a wealth of experience in workforce development, career and technical education, adult education, and postsecondary instruction – a broad skillset that will prove extremely important to LTCC and our community in the years ahead.”
Deeds is expected to start at the end of August.
