In recent years, the Springmeyer Garage was slowly deteriorating and becoming an eyesore, but in its heyday from 1940 into the 1970s it was a thriving service station and car dealership.

Wednesday marked the end of the building which was once owned by Melvin “Buzz” Springmeyer and his wife, Marjorie Johnson Springmeyer from the pioneer South Lake Tahoe family.

It was torn down to make room for an Auto Zone store. Construction crews on site didn’t know when building would begin.

Izzy’s Burger Spa which is next door saw their parking lot become half the size it used to be. Managers on duty during the demolition said they hoped the new building would go up quickly as their customers now have very limited parking options.
