SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – After being dark for July, the South Lake Tahoe City Council will resume meetings on Tuesday, August 12 at 9 a.m.

On the agenda:

The council will be discussing the future of the Lease to Locals Program that rewards homeowners financially for renting out their homes to full-time renters. In place since 2021, 59 rentals have opened up for at least a one-year term, resulting in housing for 144 adults and children. 32 of those leases were renewed for at least one year. The Council will be deciding to bring the management of the company in-house, should the program continue, instead of the company that has managed it since the beginning, Placemate.

After a speed study was completed, the Council will consider lowering the speed limit on Sierra Boulevard from 35 mph to 30 mph. This follows a previous reduction in speed limits on sections of Pioneer Trail, Ski Run Blvd., and Lake Tahoe Blvd. Most people who drove on Sierra Blvd. during the test period were going 36 mph.
