Alpine County's new sheriff, Taylor Green, takes office on 11/2/26

ALPINE COUNTY, Calif. — The Alpine County Board of Supervisors has appointed Undersheriff Taylor Green to serve as Alpine County Sheriff-Coroner, effective November 2, 2026.

Green’s appointment follows the retirement of current Sheriff Tom Minder which takes effect on November 1. The Board made the appointment pursuant to California Government Code Section 25304, which authorizes the Board of Supervisors to fill a vacancy in the Office of Sheriff.

Green has spent his law enforcement career serving Alpine County and currently serves as undersheriff. For Green, the appointment represents both a continuation of his service and a new responsibility to the community he calls home.

“I do not look at Alpine County simply as the place where I work,” said Green. “This is my community. These are my neighbors. These are the people I have spent my career serving, and they are the people I want to continue serving. I am proud of the progression I have made within this organization. I am proud of the people I have had the opportunity to work alongside, and I am proud of the community I have had the privilege to serve.”

“I also understand that being appointed sheriff is not the culmination of that service,” added the new sheriff. “It is a new responsibility. I will take it seriously. I will lead with integrity; I will stand behind the men and women of the sheriff’s office; I will be accountable to the people of Alpine County; and I will never forget who we are here to serve. I am ready to accept that responsibility.”

The appointment provides continuity in leadership for the Alpine County Sheriff’s Office as it enters its next chapter. Green will assume the full rights, responsibilities and duties of the Sheriff/Coroner upon taking office and completing the required oath and bond.
