By South Tahoe Public Utility District
There are no evacuation orders currently in place for the Tahoe Basin. Many in the community are packing their emergency supply kit and coming up with an evacuation plan to prepare in case of fire. The South Tahoe Public Utility District reminds customers to turn off irrigation systems and outdoor hoses in the event of an evacuation.
“During a fire, your water district is working to maximize the available water supply and water pressure for fire fighters,” said Shelly Thomsen, public affairs and conservation manager at South Tahoe Public Utility District. “Please turn off any outdoor water before evacuating so fire fighters have ample water to do their job.”
If fire should impact one area of South Lake Tahoe, the District encourages all remaining customers to conserve water. “Turning off your irrigation system, only flushing solids, delaying clothes washing, and shortening showers helps to preserve water for firefighting efforts where they are needed,” said Thomsen.
