TRUCKEE, Calif. – SR-89 has reopened after being closed Friday afternoon following a fatal collision involving one International box truck and three other vehicles.

On August 26 at approximately 1:20 p.m., the truck, driven by a 43-year-old male from Vallejo, Calif. was heading north on SR-89 when for unknown reasons he allowed the truck to cross over the solid double yellow lines and into the southbound traffic lanes.

Heading south on those lanes were a Ford Eco Sport driven by a 42-year-old resident of Tempe, Ariz., a white Subaru driven by a 37-year-old resident of Olympic Valley, and a black Subaru driven by a 42-year-old resident of Truckee.

The preliminary investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Truckee shows the truck struck all three vehicles, sideswiping two and hitting the white Subaru head-on. The driver of the white Subaru sustained fatal injuries. A passenger in the truck and the driver of the black Subaru were transported to Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee with minor injuries.

Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor at this time, CHP said.

The collision is still under investigation. If anyone has information regarding this collision is asked to call Officer D. Lack with the Truckee CHP at 530.563.9200.
