SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Giada Lancellotti and Olive Offenbacher, of Girl Scout Troop 722, completed their Silver Award Project this past May by designing, building, and installing a new Gaga Ball Pit at 4-H Camp Lake Tahoe. The pit was officially unveiled during the Tahoe Shores Girl Scout Camporee over Memorial Day Weekend, where local Girl Scouts gathered to play its very first games.

The girls envisioned the project as a way to bring people together while encouraging physical fitness and good sportsmanship. “Our project will bring people together to play a good, heartfelt game,” they wrote in their proposal.

The Gaga Ball Pit was designed to be accessible for all ages and abilities. “Gaga ball is easy to learn and can be played by a wide range of age groups and skill levels,” the girls explained. They believed the addition would positively impact the community by promoting healthy lifestyles, leadership, and self-respect through play. “All in all, Gaga Ball will be a great addition to the Lake Tahoe 4-H Camp and our wonderful community.”

From start to finish, Giada and Olive managed every step of the effort—securing donations, handling measurements, and completing the full construction and assembly of the pit. They were supported by Charles Lancellotti, woodworker and advisor, along with Kelly Lancellotti and Tara Offenbacher, who assisted with donation requests, 4-H Camp coordination, and construction supervision.

All building materials were generously donated by Meek’s Lumber and Hardware, DIY Home Center, Signs of Tahoe, and Play It Again Sports.

Tragically, just two weeks after celebrating the project’s debut, Giada Lancellotti passed away after being struck by a car while crossing at a crosswalk on her bicycle on her way to a fishing derby at Sawmill Pond. Giada was known for living life to the fullest, embracing each day with kindness, laughter, and inclusivity. Her spirit lives on through the Gaga Ball Pit, which will continue to bring joy and connection to generations of campers.

To honor her memory, the Live Like Giada Memorial Scholarship has been established to support local youth. Contributions can be made at: Live Like Giada Memorial Scholarship.
