SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – “Footsteps of the Past: Suspended in Time” has been installed at Lakeview Commons, and to celebrate its completion, there was a recent ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Sculptor Terrie Bennet was selected to create the art piece out of a field of ten seeking the commission. She used bronze and steel to build a series of four stainless steel cubes, each containing a different sculpture made of stainless steel mesh. They represent historical imagery of Lake Tahoe, including a Washoe woman weaving a basket, an old schooner sailboat, a vintage skier, and a bear.  The sculptures are connected by life-size bronze footprints, creating a narrative journey through the historical themes.  Each footprint is cast from a different Washoe tribe member’s foot.

The transparent design of the sculptures allows them to blend harmoniously with the natural landscape, enhancing the overall visitor experience.

The South Lake Tahoe Arts, Culture, and Tourism Commission reviewed the submissions for the $100,000 project. Funding was provided by the remaining American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) fund. The City Council dedicated the funds for art programming that supports strategic cultural and arts investments benefiting both visitors and locals.
