SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – When it becomes safe to return home after the Caldor Fire, please flush your waterline by running an outdoor hose bib for a few minutes or until the water runs clear. Water that has remained in your home’s plumbing during evacuation periods can result in taste or odor issues. To resolve this issue, run each of your inside taps for a minute. Check to make sure your irrigation system is turned on and programmed to run on your designated watering days (Even numbered street address water Monday, Wednesday, Friday; Odd numbered street addresses water Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday). The water distribution system was not damaged by fire and your water is safe to drink. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your water, please call our front office at 530-544-6474.

For more information on how to safely return home, check out the City of South Lake Tahoe’s Repopulation webpage and CAL FIRE’s Returning Home Checklist.

As this exhausting and stressful week comes to an end, I want you to know that your South Tahoe PUD staff has been working tirelessly, around the clock, to keep systems running and water flowing for firefighters. We look forward to welcoming you home when it is safe to return.
