BEAUMONT, Calif. — The Beaumont News Source and other news outlets have confirmed that 81-year-old David Nelson of Gardnerville, Nev., died on Saturday, Sept. 5, after being hit by a vehicle in front of a home in Beaumont.
According to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office, Nelson sustained injuries at approximately 7:31 p.m. Paramedics responded to the scene, but Nelson was pronounced deceased at 7:45 p.m.
Officials confirmed that Nelson’s next of kin have been notified.
The Beaumont Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident. They did not provide information about the driver or vehicle involved.
Nelson has been an active community member in Douglas County along with his wife, Jeanne Shizuru. He served as a county commissioner from 2016-2020 and was a current trustee on the Gardnerville Ranchos General Improvement District. Nelson was also a member of the Minden Rotary Club and a local real estate agent.
