SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Refuse collection service will resumed in the repopulated area of the South Shore Monday, but many returning residents in Meyers may have missed their scheduled day.

Many customers of South Tahoe Refuse will have spoiled food and/or garbage due to the evacuation and they opened three temporary locations for those returning home, but now Meyers is returning home so they’ve added a new location for household trash.

Bears and other wildlife will be extremely active as residents return, so a reminder to not put any food-related garbage out on the curb until the morning of collection day.

Starting Friday there is a temporary location for drop-off of household garbage at the west end of the Holiday Market parking lot. Look for the orange garbage truck. Hours are 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday and 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m Saturday and Sunday. Drop-off is free.

There are also drop-off locations at Bijou Park and Tahoe Douglas Fire Station #23 for City and Nevada residents as well as the South Tahoe Refuse main location.

The STR Transfer Station is temporarily open 7 days/week from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 2140 Ruth Ave. There will be no charge for household garbage/food waste drop-off.

Bijou Park – 1201 Al Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe – Monday, Sept. 6 to Friday, Sept 10 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 11 and Sunday Sept. 12 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Look for their garbage truck in the parking lot.

Tahoe Douglas Fire Station #23, 193 Elks Point Rd., Zephyr Cove, Nevada, Monday to Friday 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m., Saturday – Sunday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m

If customers are able to separate out their food waste from all other waste, there are bins available at the Transfer Station for food only that will be sent to Full Circle Compost. There can be no packaging, plastic, paper, etc. in the food waste bins.
