PLACER/EL DORADO COUNTIES, Calif. – Caltrans is advising motorists of various lane closures next week due to multiple construction projects in the Lake Tahoe region.
In Tahoe City along State Route 28 (SR28), work continues on a $31.7 million Caltrans pavement rehabilitation project. The contractor for this project is Mercer Fraser Company of Eureka.
Due to expected inclement weather next week, the work schedule has been modified from previous weeks. Work is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Tuesday, September 30, through Thursday, October 2, and from 7 p.m. Thursday, October 2, through noon Friday, October 3, between Jackpine Street and Commons Beach Road. The final layer of pavement is scheduled to be placed along the section of SR28 near Jackpine Street during this time. Access to cross streets and driveways will remain open; however, no street parking will be permitted in the construction zone.
The $10.6 million Fanny Bridge project continues with the placement of intermediate diaphragm concrete on Monday, September 29, followed by tying the bridge deck rebar. The deck pour is currently scheduled for Monday, October 6. The new Fanny Bridge is scheduled to reopen to all traffic Saturday, November 15. During the project, traffic will detour onto Lake Boulevard bypass to access State Route 89 (SR89) and SR28. West Lake Boulevard remains open for business and transit center access, with only the Fanny Bridge being closed. The pedestrian and bicycle path across the Truckee River Dam will remain open throughout the project. The project is led by the Federal Highway Administration, and the contractor is Thompson Builders of Novato.
Additional projects along SR28 include:
- Drainage work is scheduled with one-way traffic control in effect between Sierra Terrace Road and Lake Forest Road (East) from 7 p.m. Monday, September 29 until 7 a.m. Tuesday, September 30.
- Utility work is scheduled with one-way traffic control in effect just east of Old County Road in Cedar Flat Monday, September 29 through Thursday, October 2 from 7 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Work is also scheduled Friday, October 3 from 7 a.m. until noon.
- Utility work is scheduled between Agate Road and Pino Grande Avenue Monday, September 29 through Thursday, October 2 from 7 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Work is also scheduled Friday, October 3 from 7 a.m. until noon.
- Electric utility work is scheduled between Raccoon Street in Kings Beach and East Agatam Avenue in Tahoe Vista Monday, September 29 through Thursday, October 2 from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
- Drainage work is scheduled with one-way traffic control in effect between Terrace Drive and Carnelian Woods Avenue from 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 30 until 7 a.m. Wednesday, October 1.
- Drainage work is scheduled with one-way traffic control in effect between Anderson Road and East Agatam Avenue in Tahoe Vista from 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 1 until 7 a.m. Thursday, October 2.
- Broadband utility work is scheduled at Park Lane in Brockway Wednesday, October 1 through Friday, October 3 from 7 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
- Tree work is scheduled with one-way traffic control in effect at Agate Road in Carnelian Bay Thursday, October 2 from 7 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
Along SR89 in Placer County, utility work is scheduled with one-way traffic control in effect Monday, September 29 through Thursday, October 2 from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. between South Street and Fern Street in the Homewood area. Work is also scheduled Friday, October 3 from 7 a.m. until noon.
Utility work is scheduled Monday, September 29 through Thursday, October 2 from 7 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Truckee River Bridge between Alpine Meadows and Olympic Valley. Work is also scheduled Friday, October 3 from 7 a.m. until noon.
Along SR89 in El Dorado County, broadband utility work is scheduled Monday, September 29 through Thursday, October 2 from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Friday, October 3 from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. Crews will be working in various areas between the Alpine County line and the U.S. Highway 50 junction in Meyers. Crews will also be working in various areas between the Placer County line and 13th Street in South Lake Tahoe.
Construction of a new roundabout at U.S. Highway 50 and Pioneer Trail in Meyers continues, with work scheduled Monday, September 29 through Thursday, October 2 from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. and Friday, October 3 from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m.
