LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Caltrans is advising motorists of various lane closures next week due to multiple construction projects in the Lake Tahoe region. 

In Tahoe City along State Route 28 (SR 28), work continues on a $31.7 million Caltrans pavement rehabilitation project. The contractor for this project is Mercer Fraser Company of Eureka.

Work is scheduled from Wednesday, October 15, and Thursday, October 16 from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. between Jackpine Street and Commons Beach Road. Crews will be raising utilities, curb ramps, performing minor electrical work and striping on the roadwayAccess to cross streets and driveways will remain open, however, no street parking will be permitted in the construction zone.

The $10.6 million Fanny Bridge project continues with the new Fanny Bridge scheduled to reopen to all traffic in late November. During the project, traffic will detour onto Lake Boulevard bypass to access State Route 89 (SR 89) and SR 28. West Lake Boulevard remains open for business and transit center access with only the Fanny Bridge being closed. The pedestrian and bicycle path across the Truckee River Dam will remain open throughout the project. The project is led by the Federal Highway Administration and the contractor is Thompson Builders of Novato.

Additional projects along SR 28 include:

  • Broadband utility work is scheduled with one -way traffic control in effect in Kings Beach between Deer Street and Raccoon Street Sunday, October 12 through Friday, October 17 from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m.
  • Additional work is scheduled with bi-directional traffic in effect between Raccoon Street and the Nevada state line Monday, October 13 through Friday, October 17 from 7 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.
  • Tree work is scheduled with one-way traffic control in effect in Carnelian Bay between Sahara Drive and Agate Road Thursday, October 16 from 7 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Along SR 89 in Placer County, utility work is scheduled from 7 a.m. Monday, October 13 through noon Friday, October 17 between South Street and Fern Street in the Homewood area.

Along SR 89 in El Dorado County, broadband utility work is scheduled with one-way traffic control in effect Monday, October 13 through Thursday, October 16 from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Friday, October 17 from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. between Luther Pass and the U.S. Highway 50 (US 50) junction in Meyers.

Work is scheduled with bi-directional traffic in effect Monday, October 13 through Thursday, October 16 from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Friday, October 17 from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. between the US 50 junction and 13th Street in South Lake Tahoe.

Work is also scheduled with one-way traffic control in effect Monday, October 13 through Thursday, October 16 from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Friday, October 17 from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. between 13th Street and the Placer County line.

Construction of a new roundabout at US 50 and Pioneer Trail in Meyers continues, with work scheduled Monday, October 13 through Friday, October 17 from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m.
