Dear Residents and Stakeholders in South Lake Tahoe:

In times of challenge, we may not control the cards we are dealt — but we do control how we play them. South Lake Tahoe has always chosen resilience, compassion, and integrity. Let’s continue to lead with courage, determination, and care. I know community members want to hear from their elected representatives.

Recent events in the City of South Lake Tahoe have generated great concern, anger, and questions regarding city governance leadership. These reactions are not only understandable — they are a reflection of how deeply our community cares. In moments like these, transparency and accountability are not optional; they are essential. We in the public sector must always put service above self.

As a City Council Member, I want to speak directly to the residents, staff, and stakeholders who are seeking answers and reassurance. Our city’s strength has always come from its people — from your resilience, your integrity, and your commitment to one another. I remain steadfast in my duty to uphold these values and to ensure that our governance reflects the trust you’ve placed in us. The operation of city departments and city services continues uninterrupted, as you have already been assured by the city manager and our fine team. City finances are strong and managed in a check-and-balance system that is annually reviewed by our independent auditors.

Like you, I am deeply troubled and baffled by current events, and I am giving all public input and commentary serious consideration. The next steps will come very soon. They include reviewing city protocols and state law mandates.  I welcome your questions, your feedback, and your voice in this process.

Decisions about who will be city council officers and who will receive city council assignments on boards and commissions are within the purview of the city council. Decisions regarding the status of individuals continuing to hold public office are within the purview of state law, the courts, and their own conscience. Conscience needs to be the guide for those involved.

I wish no harm or ill to anyone. I hope that all parties put the interest of the general welfare of the people of the City of South Lake Tahoe first and foremost.

Let us move forward together — not by ignoring the challenges, but by facing them with courage, compassion, and a shared commitment to the well-being of South Lake Tahoe.

David
