I am proud to call South Lake Tahoe my home—a place where I was raised, a community that shaped who I am, and the place where I have chosen to raise my own family. After leaving for college, I always knew I would return, drawn by the unique beauty and spirit of this community. Now, as both a long-time local and a parent, I am excited at the prospect of giving back to the place that has given me so much by serving as a Board Director for the South Tahoe Public Utility District.
My journey with the District began many years ago when I had the opportunity to work for them. It was this early experience that sparked my passion for community service, and it gave me a firsthand understanding of the vital role the District plays in maintaining our infrastructure, safeguarding our water supply, and ensuring a sustainable future for Tahoe. I have since gained a wealth of experience, first by working at Barton Health in IT, and then continuing in the IT sector for the past 15 years.
This background in technology is something I believe is critically needed on the District’s Board. As we move forward into an increasingly digital world, the need for modern, data-driven solutions and technological infrastructure is becoming more important than ever. I bring a unique skill set that combines hands-on district experience with an advanced understanding of technology that the current board does not have. I believe that my fresh perspective and skills will allow us to tackle challenges such as water conservation, infrastructure upgrades, and sustainability in a way that is efficient, forward-thinking, and mindful of future generations.
At the same time, I understand that any improvements must be made responsibly. The cost of updating infrastructure is essential for maintaining safe and reliable services, but I also understand the financial pressures our residents face. Ensuring reasonable and sustainable rates for the community is a top priority for me. We must find a balance between upgrading critical infrastructure and maintaining affordability for those who call South Tahoe home. I will advocate for transparent decision-making and a measured approach that puts the needs of residents first, ensuring that we manage costs while still preparing for the future.
South Lake Tahoe is not just a place where I live—it’s my home, my children’s home, and a community I care deeply about. I am excited for the opportunity to serve it in the best way I know how: with a commitment to progress, a dedication to collaboration, and a drive to use my skills to improve the lives of every resident.
Together, we can build a stronger, more sustainable future for South Lake Tahoe. I hope to earn your vote for the South Tahoe Public Utility District Board of Directors. Let’s take this journey forward, together. This coming election season, I hope I can count on your vote!
Sincerely,
Joel Henderson
