SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – There were two separate hit-and-run crashes in South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, each leading to the arrests of two local men.
On Saturday, October 27, Jorge Humberto Medrano, 28, was driving on Lake Tahoe Blvd. at Tallac Avenue when he allegedly hit another vehicle and left the scene at approximately 4:15 p.m. The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) found Medrano and his vehicle, and the suspect was arrested for felony hit-and-run and driving without a license near Bigler Avenue and Lake Tahoe Blvd. According to SLTPD Lt. Scott Crivelli, the suspect also had a switchblade on his person, which is illegal in California. The occupants of the car that was hit were transported to Barton Hospital with minor injuries. He was booked into the El Dorado County Jail and held on a $75,000 bail.
He has since been released.
The second crash occurred a short time later at about 5:20 p.m. Gabriel Matthew Fisher, 31, was driving near Kyburz Avenue and Emerald Bay Road when he allegedly side-swiped a vehicle and fled the scene. He was found near Melba and E streets with signs and symptoms of alcohol intoxication, according to the police report. The driver of the car that was hit had minor injuries but was not transported to the hospital, according to Crivelli.
DUI becomes a felony when the DUI driver is involved in a collision and someone besides the intoxicated driver gets injured (any passengers or other drivers). He was arrested for felony hit-and-run and felony DUI and booked into the El Dorado County Jail with a bail hold of $125,000. He is currently in jail.
