A free Writing Workshop sponsored by Arts and Culture El Dorado will be offered in South Lake Tahoe from November 2025 through June 2026.
The Veterans Voices Writing Workshop will foster an atmosphere of camaraderie and exploration of the creative process and will include discussions and instruction on creative and technical writing techniques. No previous writing experience is necessary, and the workshop will be tailored to each participant.
The primary purpose of the workshop is to provide a supportive environment for creating different forms of written communication to express ideas, tell stories, and convey information effectively. An anthology of selected completed work will be published (with the author’s permission) at the end of the workshop. Grants from the El Dorado County Veterans Affairs Commission and Friends of Seniors support the program.
The workshop will be facilitated by local author, Susan Norman, whose award-winning debut memoir, RISK, A Life Saved by the River, was published in June 2025. Ms. Norman is also a veteran, having served for three years in the U.S. Army immediately after high school.
The workshop will begin in November and will be held every Wednesday from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday workshops will be scheduled through June, excluding certain days for holidays, instructor days, or inclement weather. Participants can sign up for any Wednesday they choose, assuming space is available.
Workshops will be held at Lake Tahoe Community College in South Lake Tahoe, Calif.
