SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) celebrated its new entrance, plaza, and the rest of the “Remodel for Efficiency” project last week in South Lake Tahoe.

In 2014, South Lake Tahoe voters approved Measure F, a $55 million bond measure to modernize and upgrade technology, repair aging facilities and systems, and improve educational programs and student learning environments.

Many of those projects have been completed, and the latest to be checked off the “to-do” list is the campus’s main building front entrance. There is now an epic Lake Tahoe Community College sign, and heated sidewalks to make the campus accessible for all. The remodeled classrooms and opening up, as are the services just inside the front door.

The multi-year project is about 95 percent done, with a few steps remaining.

LTCC President/Superintendent Jeff DeFranco officially cut the ribbon to let the student body in the front door. Many stopped by the next sign to take lots of photos.

The last time the front doors were open was in March 2020, and the crowd cheered as they once again opened.

“Alas, it’s here,” said DeFranco.

DeFranco said the new amphitheater and sign will be the new place to hang out, as well as THE spot for photos, and he sees many graduates using the sign for their graduation photos.

He thanked students and staff for their patience through the construction period.

white the main building work is wrapping up, there is still some construction activity. The new campus housing broke ground this spring and will be ready for 100 low-income students by 2025.
