The men’s soccer team from Lake Tahoe Community College has repeated as the Golden Valley Conference Champs, earning them a spot in this weekend’s state playoffs.
The LTCC Coyotes will be the #5 seed in Saturday’s game in South Lake Tahoe against Lassen College, the #12 seed. The 2 p.m. game will be played at the Community Playfields on Al Tahoe Blvd.
A win by the Coyotes on November 21 would earn them another home game on Tuesday, November 24 at 7 p.m.
South Lake Tahoe native and STHS graduate Carlos Trujeque, who is a sophomore at LTCC, earned the title of best field player in the State of California this year. He had 13 goals, 10 assists and 36 points. He also received the Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year awards from the Golden Valley Conference. Winning both of those awards in the same year is a true rarity.
Sophomore forward Jerrell Cato (London, England) was the tenth best field player in the state for 2015, with 5 goals, 13 assists and 23 points while sophomore goalkeeper Victor Andrades from Las Vegas, Nev., was the seventh ranked keeper in the entire state.
Lake Tahoe Community College is one of the smaller community colleges in the state’s 113-school system, and their consecutive conference championships is quite an accomplishment. They are one of only five community college soccer programs in the entire country to have won back-to-back championships in their first two years.
