SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) is partnering with the Keep Tahoe Blue and Tahoe Regional Planning Agency for a one-day-only Holiday Tree Permit Event — giving you the chance to pick out a holiday tree and help restore the Trout Creek Meadow!
For one day, LTCC will issue tree-cutting permits so the community can harvest lodgepole pines directly from the meadow — a key step in improving biodiversity and reducing wildfire risk.
On Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., visit the tent at the LTCC Library. Sign a liability form, grab your free permit, and follow the guidelines. There are some rules…like don’t leave an unsightly stump that someone will trip over and remove the whole tree, even if you top it!
Why It Matters:
Removing encroaching lodgepole pine helps:
• Restore native meadow plants
• Boost biodiversity
• Improve water availability
• Maintain a natural fire break
• Reduce catastrophic wildfire risk
LTCC is committed to stewarding the Trout Creek Meadow through smart land management, agency partnerships, and traditional ecological knowledge from the Washoe Tribe.
By harvesting a holiday tree, you’re helping restore habitat, protect the community, and support Tahoe’s natural resources. Plus — lodgepole pines make surprisingly great holiday trees!
