STATELINE, Nev. – The Douglas County courthouse at Lake Tahoe was once again filled with the unmistakable warmth and aroma of a holiday meal this week as Lucky Beaver Bar & Burger continued the annual, and savory, tradition. The restaurant provided a complete Thanksgiving-style feast for courthouse staff and members of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
What began years ago as a simple act of gratitude has become an anticipated community event, thanks to the Lucky Beaver team. In 2025, the tradition resonated even more deeply, celebrating unity, appreciation, and the spirit of public service that defines the Lake Tahoe basin.
Douglas County Undersheriff Ron Elges shared his appreciation on behalf of the Sheriff’s Office, “Sheriff Coverley and his staff are very thankful for the generous show of support by the Lucky Beaver and their personnel by providing a holiday meal for us. In attendance were Sheriff’s Office personnel, Commissioner Mark Gardner, and several other divisions of County government that work in the Tahoe Basin.”
Before sunrise, Lucky Beaver General Manager, TJ Durham and Head Chef Margarito Quintero were already in their kitchen preparing a full spread complete with turkey, traditional sides, and desserts.
“We at Lucky Beaver Bar & Burger are honored to uphold this cherished tradition for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and staff. Their dedication, not just to our Stateline location but to the entire region, is something we deeply respect. This meal is our way of giving back and saying thank you for all they do,” said Mike Leeper, Co-owner of Lucky Beaver Bar and Burger.
This year’s carving ceremony brought a special moment of nostalgia as retired East Fork Justice Court Judge Richard Glasson, who had carving honors for years, made a return appearance. Glasson came out of retirement for one day to carve the turkey once again, delighting staff and carrying forward a ritual he helped shape.
Lucky Beaver Co-Owner Pat Farrah added that the tradition reflects the company’s core value, “Community isn’t something you talk about, it’s something you show up for. Supporting the Sheriff’s Office and courthouse staff each year is one of the ways we demonstrate our gratitude. We’re proud to stand with the people who protect, serve, and keep this community strong.”
