The fog was socked in around Lake Tahoe Wednesday morning, but its starting to recede and retreat and should be all clear by noon.
It isn’t often when the temperature of the lake is warmer than the air, but that is what happens when fog is created. The cold air mass condensates into clouds and sits low over the lake and South Lake Tahoe. The ski resorts were sitting above the fog and had a very sunny morning.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno said its hard to pinpoint when it will happen and there is a small chance for more fog on Thursday morning when overnight lows will be around 15 degrees.
There isn’t much of a change for any snow or other precipitation in the near future for Lake Tahoe, though NWS said some forecast models are hinting at a system dropping down on Saturday morning. Its a slight chance that some snow (under 1/2 inch) could drop, but there are many variables that can happen between Wednesday and Saturday that could keep it away.
The extended forecast has no precipitation in it at this time. The existing snowpack can go below normal if the weather pattern doesn’t change.
