“Thanks again for allowing us to share the wonderful feelings of generosity by helping the community at a Monday Meal, which Bread & Broth volunteers provide year-round,’ said Dan Delorey. This marks the second consecutive year that Dan and his family sponsored an Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) during the Christmas holiday season. On Monday, December 8, the family consisting of Dan, his wife, Deb, their two children, Kaylan and Seth, along with family friend Lindsay White, arrived at St. Theresa Grace Hall at 3 p.m. to begin their participation in their Monday Meal sponsorship.

Hosting a Monday Meal is a rewarding yet busy experience. Setting up for the meal service from 3 to 4 p.m. involves preparing utensils, packing up to 120 bags filled with fresh fruit and vegetables, icing milk, eggs, and butter, displaying bread and pastries, setting up the dessert and drink table, and arranging canned goods, salad products, and meat at the food ‘giveaway’ tables. Once dinner guests go through the evening meal’s serving line, they head for the food ‘giveaway’ tables, usually leaving with two to three grocery bags filled with healthy, nutritious food to support them through the remainder of the week.

One of the most enjoyable aspects of hosting a Monday Meal is being on the meal serving line as Grace Hall’s doors are opened to the dinner guests at 4:00 p.m. Greeting the guests and filling their trays allows the sponsor crew members to interact directly with the guests, where sharing kindness, smiles, and ‘thank yous’ abound. Dan also shared, “There was so much appreciation shown by the guests, and so much food for everyone, it really was a great night!”

As the doors closed at 5:30 p.m., the Delorey family sponsor members helped with the meal’s takedown and cleanup, continuing their efforts to make the evening a success. The Bread & Broth volunteers greatly appreciated the help and positive atmosphere they brought to the event.

The holidays are a special time of giving, and Bread & Broth (B&B) is deeply thankful to the Delorey family for the gift of AAD sponsorship. Their generosity brightened
the lives of many and highlighted the mutual benefits of giving and receiving.

“It was a wonderful experience today at Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal,” said Deb Delorey. “Makes us thankful for all we have.”
