SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Last Saturday’s snowstorm couldn’t keep members of Lake Tahoe Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), from hosting the Wreaths Across America Ceremony at Happy Homestead Cemetery. The mission of Wreaths Across America is to “Remember” those who have served and are serving our nation and community; “Honor” them for their service; and “Teach” younger generations about the sacrifices made to keep our nation free.
Participants included DAR Chapter Regent Jini Becktell along with other DAR officers and members; bagpiper David MacDonald, MD; South Lake Tahoe Mayor Tamara Wallace; El Dorado County Supervisor Brooke Laine; American Legion Post 795 Commander Tom Millham and other post members; El Dorado County Veterans Affairs Commissioner Gary Norton; American Legion Auxiliary Vice President Linda Norton; El Dorado County Detectives Katie Prescott and Tyler Katz along with other members of the Sheriff’s Department; South Lake Tahoe Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Justin Keys and Captain Mike Taormina along with other department members and “Big Red.” Checking in before the ceremony, but on duty and unable to stay due to calls for assistance, were Sergeant Justin Brock and other members of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.
The DAR Chapter would like to also thank Happy Homestead Cemetery Director Adria Nkala and cemetery staff member Jeff Hobby for preparing the cemetery in advance of the ceremony, and for allowing this annual event to be held at the cemetery.
