SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The name “Jeremy Evans” is synonymous with the game of soccer in South Lake Tahoe, and now he’ll be taking his coaching expertise to the University of Nevada, Reno (Nevada) as their women’s soccer head coach.
Evans has most recently been both the men’s and women’s head soccer coach at Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC). Since 2015, Evans has been on the field at LTCC, leading the women’s team to national rankings and securing several conference championships. As their coach, the women had a record of 142-46-27 over the 10 years. On the men’s side, Evans coached them to six top-three conference finishes, one for each of the years he coached their team. Between the two teams, he led them to a combined nine Golden Valley Conference championships. More than 90 percent of the LTCC players received four-year offers, and over 70 percent transferred to four-year programs.
During his tenure, Evans also earned several coach of the year accolades.
Evans said it will be hard to leave the Tahoe teams as he heads to Reno, though his strong coaching staff will be able to hold the program together as the college decides next steps.
“It is time for a new challenge,” said Evans. “I hope to continue the success from LTCC at Nevada.”
Coach has already been busy in the new position, even with the students on break. He held a team meeting on Zoom to introduce himself and to get the girls excited for their new season. He also reached out to the 2026 recruits so they could feel comfortable with Evans in his new position.
He told them that, although challenging, they will be ready for a fresh start as a team. Evans said he looks forward to working on a great team culture with his new position, and told the team that he will push them to be the best they can, and that “We get to be in this together.”
Evans also reached out to all of the LTCC players so he could tell them personally what happened. They, too, are on break, so it was another Zoom call.
Before coaching at LTCC, Evans was the South Tahoe High girls’ soccer coach for both junior varsity and varsity. Over his five seasons there, he compiled a 38-5-4 overall record and led the team to two state championships.
He also taught English at both the high school and college levels.
The coach, who played for Marquette in college, has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from there, and a master’s from the former Sierra Nevada College (now UNR-Tahoe). Evans has written three books: In Search of Powder, The Battle for Paradise, and See You Tomorrow, which is about French snowboarder Marco Siffredi and his mysterious disappearance on Mount Everest. A documentary will soon be created about Siffredi, with Evans helping with his research.
Evans will be keeping South Lake Tahoe as his base – his wife and daughters are all in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District, and his 8th grader is playing soccer on the U15 team that Evans will continue to help with. “They are a talented team, I’m not leaving them high and dry,” said Evans, who said there are parents who can help coach.
Nevada’s first game isn’t until August, but Evans will be working with the team right away. Last year’s Wolfpack went 2-14-2 in 2025.
