Multiple agencies have responded to a fire burning in Smith Valley, Nevada that has grown to 1,500 acres as of Sunday evening. It is burning in the area of Highway 208 and the Wellington Cut-Off.
There are approximately 300 firefighters, 25 engines, three helicopters, eight fixed wing and four hand crews on scene fighting fire.
Numerous structures are threatened and there are evacuations are underway. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and search and rescue are conducting evacuation and traffic control. Smith Valley Baptist Church, 888 Hudson Way, is a shelter with the Red Cross.
Unified Command between Central Lyon Co. and Bureau of Land Management with help from fire fighting personnel, including Douglas County and Calfire.
NV Energy has requested Liberty Utilities de-energize their line into that community which feeds off of theirs. There will be an extended outage in the Coleville, Walker and Topaz areas because of the fire.
