
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – It has been windy in Lake Tahoe since Saturday morning, and the wind was ahead of the next storm which is slated to enter the Lake Tahoe Basin Sunday morning.
A Winter Weather Advisory from the National Weather Service (NWS) is in place from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Sunday, December 22.
Snow is expected though temperatures are starting too high. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 5 inches are forecast for lake level with 3 to 9 inches above 7000 feet and localized amounts of a foot along the Sierra crest. Winds remain, gusting as high as 50 mph with ridge gusts to 100 mph at times.
The next two-day forecast from NWS-Reno:
Today – Rain and snow. Temperature rising to near 47 by 11am, then falling to around 34 during the remainder of the day. Breezy, with a southwest wind 15 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.
Tonight – Rain and snow before 10pm, then a chance of snow. Low around 12. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming southeast after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
Monday – A 50 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the morning. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.
Monday Night – A 40 percent chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 11. Calm wind. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
