SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – There is a chance for periods of light snow and gusty winds in the Lake Tahoe area through Saturday morning, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.

The first part of this weak storm is moving through the region on Thursday with the second part Friday into Saturday.

Snow totals will be light for the first wave, and up to a few inches for the second wave. Up to 1 inch in the Tahoe Basin and higher terrain of northeast
California, with spotty dustings possible Friday night for Western Nevada foothills.

Strong gusty winds are forecast along Sierra ridgelines through Saturday morning. Southwest winds will pick up in valley locations Friday afternoon, peaking overnight into early Saturday morning. Widespread gusts of 30-45 mph are likely with wind prone locations from approximately Reno south through Bishop
possibly exceeding 50 mph. Lakes will be choppy with hazardous travel for high profile vehicles, particularly along US-395 and I-580 from Reno south through Mono County.

The weekend forecast for South Lake Tahoe from NWS Reno:

Tonight – A 20 percent chance of snow after 3am. Increasing clouds, with a low around 26. South wind 10 to 15 mph.

Friday – A chance of rain and snow before 11am, then a chance of rain between 11am and 3pm, then a chance of rain and snow after 3pm. Snow level 6900 feet. Partly sunny, with a high near 44. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Friday Night – A 30 percent chance of snow, mainly after 10pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 21. Breezy, with a southwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

Saturday – A 30 percent chance of snow before 10am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 38. Northwest wind around 5 mph. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Saturday Night – Mostly clear, with a low around 17. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming east after midnight.

Sunday – Sunny, with a high near 46. Calm wind.
