A $7.3 million road improvement project has begun on a half-mile stretch of U.S. Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe, Caltrans announced.
The project spans from Ski Run Boulevard to Wildwood Avenue and will allow for the collection and treatment of stormwater runoff, in addition to adding Class II bike lanes, ADA-compliant sidewalks and pedestrian lighting. Other features include a new intersection signal, landscaping and streetscaping. Shoulders will be widened to six feet.
Granite Construction of Sparks, Nev., is the primary contractor. Construction through June 30 will occur primarily from the hours of 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday and Friday from 4 a.m. to noon. Beginning July 1, night work is expected from 8 p.m. to 11 a.m., Monday through Friday. Roadside message boards will be used to post the latest information.
Caltrans hopes to have the project completed by the end of 2013 construction season. Motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians are asked to be patient and allow some extra time to get through the work zone. Additional information can be found on www.TahoeRoads.com.
