SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – South Tahoe High School (STHS) graduate Nick Sanchez has overcome more than youth should have to, but despite everything, he is on his way to college and playing soccer at the next level. Nick will be playing for the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kansas.

According to his Sports Medicine teacher Isaiah Tannaci, Nick is an amazing South Lake Tahoe soccer player who has worked so hard to overcome challenges, adversity, and heart surgery to have an opportunity to be the first in his family to go to a university and play soccer! The St. Mary Spires season starts in August.

The scholarship Nick has earned covers 87 percent of his expenses so Tannaci has started a GoFundMe account to cover everything else to help him realize his dreams.

Nick was a four-year varsity starter for the STHS Vikings and was the first in his family to attend college at LTCC and play soccer for the Coyotes. During his playing time at LTCC, Nick was diagnosed with a heart arrhythmia and had to undergo heart surgery and get a pacemaker implanted.

“This did not deter him as he worked even harder to make it back to continue playing soccer at the highest level and graduate from LTCC with a 3.3 GPA,” said Tannaci. “Good luck Nick at Saint Mary’s!”

If you’d like to help support Nick’s future academic and athletic success by ensuring he has the support needed to stay the course and be a proud representative of the South Lake Tahoe community, please consider donating to his GoFundMe page https://gofund.me/5a473785.
