Mother Nature brought several inches of snow to South Lake Tahoe overnight, surprising many who have learned to doubt the forecast this winter.

A winter weather advisory is in place for South Lake Tahoe until 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 25. Snow should subside by 11 a.m. and then rain takes its place. Expect a high of 41 and low of 27, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Heavenly Mountain Resort and Kirkwood closed their ski operations last weekend, Sierra-at-Tahoe a few weeks before that.

There are currently road controls up for Highway 50 over Echo Summit. Chains or 4-wheel drive vehicles with snow tires from Meyers to Twin Bridges.

Here is the forecast for today and the next seven days from NWS:

Today – Snow showers before 11am, then rain and snow showers. High near 41. West wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
Tonight – A slight chance of rain and snow showers before 11pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 27. West wind 10 to 15 mph decreasing to 5 to 10 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Sunday – Sunny, with a high near 56. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northeast in the morning.

Sunday Night – Mostly clear, with a low around 31. East wind around 10 mph.

Monday – Sunny, with a high near 65. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph.

Monday Night – Mostly clear, with a low around 33.

Tuesday – Sunny, with a high near 71.

Tuesday Night – Mostly clear, with a low around 35.

Wednesday – Sunny, with a high near 69.

Wednesday Night – Mostly clear, with a low around 36.

Thursday – Sunny, with a high near 65.
