
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The first taste of winter blew through the Lake Tahoe Basin Monday, and there will be another taste of Sierra snow and valley rain late Wednesday and into Thursday. Another system moves in Friday with chances for more rain and snow through Saturday.
If driving through the Sierra this week, expect slick roads, especially over the passes.
At this time, next week looks to be clear with slightly warmer highs.
The weekly forecast for South Lake Tahoe from the National Weather Service in Reno:
Tuesday – A 20 percent chance of snow after 2 pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 44. Northeast wind around 5 mph.
Tonight – Increasing clouds, with a low of around 20. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm.
Wednesday – Mostly sunny, with a high near 51. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
Wednesday Night – A 50 percent chance of snow after 11 pm. Increasing clouds, with a low around 24. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph. Little or no snow accumulation is expected.
Thursday – Snow likely before 11 am, then a chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 46. Southwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. The chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch is possible.
Thursday Night – A chance of rain and snow before 8 pm, then a chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph. The chance of precipitation is 50%. A new snow accumulation of around an inch is possible.
Friday – A 50 percent chance of snow. Partly sunny, with a high near 44. New snow accumulation of less than one inch is possible.
