The congressman who represents South Lake Tahoe and the west and north shores has introduced the “No Medicaid for Illegal Immigrants Act,” legislation that would prohibit states from using both federal and state Medicaid funds to provide services for illegal immigrants. The bill includes an exception for emergency services in healthcare emergencies.

This bill seeks to undo what California has provided – Medicaid for everyone.

“The No Medicaid for Illegal Immigrants Act will save California taxpayers billions of dollars each year,” said Rep. Kiley. “This common sense legislation ensures that taxpayer-funded healthcare benefits are preserved for those who lawfully qualify, prioritizing the needs of American citizens and legal residents while promoting fairness and fiscal responsibility.”

Kiley’s 3rd Congressional District includes Plumas, Sierra, Nevada, Placer, Alpine, Mono, and Inyo counties, and parts of Yuba, El Dorado, and Sacramento counties.

Kiley’s office said California has been steadily increasing the number of illegal immigrants who can receive Medicaid since 2019. In 2024, California completed its expansion of Medicaid for illegal immigrants, allowing individuals between the ages of 26 and 49 to receive all benefits afforded to citizens and legal immigrants. California’s nonpartisan Legislative Analyst’s Office estimates this will cost Californians $6.5 billion annually.
