INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. – The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) has announced the arrest of a suspect in the death of Incline Village resident Susan Powell. Her body was found on January 25, 2025, in her home after deputies responded to a call of “trouble unknown” on Saturday night.
On Monday, the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Susan Powell, 59, and her death is being ruled a homicide. Details of how she died have not been released by WCSO though the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office said it was a stabbing.
A suspect was quickly identified through an investigation, and an arrest warrant was issued for Nicholas Powell, 24, also of Incline Village. The warrant was issued by the Incline Village-Crystal Township Justice Court, for the charge of Open Murder with Use of a Deadly Weapon.
The relationship between the two has not been disclosed.
Powell is currently in custody at the Lyon County Detention Facility on local charges and is awaiting extradition to Washoe County.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) said they were notified of a vehicle pursuit by the California Highway Patrol and Mono County Sheriff’s Office taking place in neighboring Mono County, Calif. The vehicle was being operated by homicide suspect Powell and they were being asked to assist as the pursuit entered Lyon County on Highway 338 in Smith Valley, Nev. at a high rate of speed. A LCSO deputy successfully ended the pursuit by incapacitating the suspect vehicle using his patrol car. The driver was subsequently arrested without further incident and
initially booked into the Lyon County Jail on charges of Felony Eluding and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office extends its gratitude and commends the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Nevada State Police, Mono County Sheriff’s Office, and the California Highway Patrol for their assistance in bringing Powell into custody.
