SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Forty-five-year-old Gabriel Antonino Evans was arrested on Tuesday, Feb. 11 after the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) launched an investigation into reports that the convicted felon and parolee had body armor.
SLTPD said they know Evans through previous violent offenses, including assault with a deadly weapon, firearms offenses, domestic violence crimes, and a bank robbery which resulted in a SWAT response.
The investigation led law enforcement to a storage unit that Evans had. In conjunction with California State Parole officers, a search of Evans’ storage unit was completed. Due to his parole status, Evans is subject to search and seizure by any peace officer without a warrant. During the search, Levell III body armor, the same type worn by law enforcement officers, was recovered, and a parole violation warrant was issued. Later in the day, Evans was located at Lake Tahoe Community College and was arrested after attempting to avoid officers by getting onto a bus. No force was used while taking Evans into custody.
He is currently in the El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe on charges of Being a Violent Felon in Possession of Body Armor, and Violation of Parole.
Evans lives locally as a member of the unhoused population. He is known to the SLTPD through outreach and collaborative efforts of the South Tahoe Area Collaborative Services (STACS) Program.
The SLTPD would like to thank State Parole and the local FBI agent for their assistance in apprehending Evans.
