SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – An unplanned power outage on Wednesday took out power for over 23,000 Liberty customers and 27,000 NV Energy customers, with many of them being without power for almost seven hours during the snowy day.

The outage was an equipment failure at NV Energy’s Buckeye substation in the Carson Valley.

“Power outages are inconvenient. During the event, our operators and team coordinated with NV Energy and Southwest Gas and worked diligently to restore power as quickly and safely as possible for our customers. If you experienced issues with our outage map during the event, please know that we are aware of the issue and are working to correct it,” said the Liberty team in an email Thursday.

Many people in South Lake Tahoe were again concerned on Thursday when looking at the Liberty outage map on their website www.libertyenergyandwater.com. As is the case throughout the year, Liberty will post planned outages as they tend to maintenance and other infrastructure needs.

As seen above, there are four planned outages on Thursday and Friday. These are all small maintenance outages during the day, and in the case of Markleeville, the outage overnight will be at county buildings and some other customers. The South Lake Tahoe outage will be in the area of Han and Blitzen streets and will affect 14 homes. No matter the reason, the customers who could be affected will receive notification via text, email, and/or voice messages approximately 48 hours before the planned outage.
