A huge thank you to all the volunteers, businesses, community members, and especially the Tibetan Buddhist Monks, who helped enrich and bring our community together. Many attended their weeklong visit (March 5-10), and their events were a big success.
There was great attendance and interaction at various locations including CoWork Tahoe and Black Bear Lodge.
Even though our whole town was out of power most of the day on Wednesday 3/5, Jamie and David Orr, held steady and provided a comfortable, serene environment that kicked off the monks’ visit. The next stop was the Black Bear Lodge, where Rachel and Greg Carlson, provided a cozy fireplace and plenty of seating to observe a tea ceremony. Tahoe Arts Project assisted in children’s activities and supplies for calligraphy and sand painting.
The biggest contributor however was Unity at the Lake. Unity was the home base for the week where the community was treated to “A Day in the Life of a Monk” along with a lively debate, that sharpened knowledge and communication skills. Unity also served as a home base for the monks to enjoy some downtime, share tea with the community, and meet interested participants.
There were many teachings and house blessings along with art classes for the kids and even pet blessings! Stay tuned for their visit next year which we hope to expand on and include even more venues!
