SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra (SITS) club hosted its second annual poster and essay contest for South Tahoe Middle School students after they participated in the recent Challenge Day.
Challenge Day is about how students can “Be The Change.” This year, the students were given the following prompt: There were several important topics discussed during the Challenge Day Assembly at STMS. Focus on ONE of the topics, such as judgment, bullying, fake images, violence, isolation, etc.. Describe how you would address a situation and include Challenge Days’ 3 steps – Notice, Choose, Act.
Teachers Mr. Principato and Mrs. Poohachoff helped the SITS club coordinate the contest. The students were awarded a total of $2,000 from SITS.

The students will be recognized during the Lake Tahoe Unified School District Board meeting on April 24, and at a SITS meeting on May 15.
Challenge Day has been in STMS for many years. Participants experience powerful love and belonging, connect across lines of difference, and move toward creating the culture they want in their school. At STMS is covers two days, one day with a workshop for 100 students, and the second day with a school-wide assembly.
