SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The grass was cut, the hot dogs were cooking, players wearing their colorful uniforms, and parents filled the stands at the Soroptimist Field at South Tahoe Middle School on Sunday afternoon. The occasion was the opening day festivities for High Sierra Softball.
This year, 152 girls are playing in the High Sierra Softball league, from Minis to Majors.
The 2025 season officially gets underway on April 14, and games are held Sunday-Thursday over the next eight weeks.
During the ceremony, High Sierra Softball Board President Al Martinez presented the City of South Lake Tahoe with a plaque, showing the league’s appreciation of the $25,000 grant they received from the City’s cannabis revenue. For the grant, new equipment was purchased, and they were on display on Sunday. As a thank you to the city, beside the plaque, Assistant City Manager Hilary Roverud and Sustainability Coordinator Sara Letton threw out the opening pitches.
