SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – It isn’t officially summer until June 20, but the next few days will certainly feel like it is already here. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno says a formidable high-pressure system will remain in place through Saturday, bringing a hot and dry spell across the Sierra and western Nevada.
South Lake Tahoe isn’t expected to break records, but it will be hot. On Friday, May 30, the historical average temperature is 69.6, and the record high is 89. The forecast is 85. Saturday, May 31’s average high is 69.9, with the record high of 90. This year’s forecast high for that day is 85.
Starting Sunday, temperatures will drop to more seasonable 70s and a chance of rain.
Hot temperatures this early in the season will be of particular concern and result in widespread moderate HeatRisk, especially in urban areas and those working or recreating outdoors. Reduce your risk to heat illness: hydrate, use sun protection, and limit peak heat exposure.
