SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Lake Tahoe Community College recently held its first-ever Coyote Country Steak Cookoff, and according to staff and participants, it was a massive success. Great food, great hospitality, and great weather!

Virat Vji, the school’s director of Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management, held the event for his culinary students and others in the community. Competitors were not only students, but the event also attracted competitors from Texas, Utah, and beyond.

“I don’t think a local first-time event has been this grand,” said  LTCC Faculty Scott Lukas. “Let me say that the competitors mentioned during the awards ceremony that this was the best event they had been to in terms of the setting, hospitality, judging, and all other aspects.”

Lukas said he was very impressed with Vji’s organization with agencies and everyone else needed to hold an event of this size.

The Steak Cookoff Association members who participated earned competition points during the June 7 event.

The event featured food tastings and competitions in five mouthwatering categories:

Steak A
Steak A&B
Appetizers (Vegan/Vegetarian)
Chicken Wings
Pork Ribs
