DONNER LAKE, Calif. – Tragedy struck at Donner Lake Friday after an adult man died after being pulled on an inner tube and falling off and into the water. According to the Truckee Police Department (TPD), the deceased person was not wearing a personal floating device.

At 12:10 p.m., TDP responded to a possible drowning call at the west end of Donner Lake. Multiple agencies and resources responded to locate the man in the water. At 4:50 p.m., TDP announced they had located the deceased in 140 feet of water.

The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office is notifying the next of kin and conducting an autopsy.

From TPD: Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased, who at this time will not be identified pending official notification of next of kin.
