Donald Dean Sheetz, age 88, of South Lake Tahoe, died September 7, 2025, at his home with family by his side.
Born in De Soto, Missouri, on March 14, 1937, Don was raised in Southern California, where he was educated, began his teaching career, and served in the Army Reserve. Shortly after marrying Sharon, they moved to South Lake Tahoe in 1965. There, they became active in the community, started their family, and built their home.
Don worked in the South Lake Tahoe School District for more than 30 years. He bowled with the Tahoe Teachers League, coached STMS basketball, and served on Ski Patrol. He also operated a fishing charter on Lake Tahoe for over 30 years and was actively involved in organizing and participating in the Lake Tahoe Marathon. Later in life, Don joined his wife in her Bible-based faith and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Some of his passions included running, fishing, biking, skiing, camping, and traveling.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Sharon; his sisters, Bonnie and Linda; his two children, Deborah and Mark, and their spouses; his grandchildren, Michaela and Ashley; and his nephews, Jon and Christopher.
A memorial service will be held on September 27 at 12:30 p.m. All who knew Don are invited to attend either in person or on Zoom.
