LAKE TAHOE, Nev. – The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) is providing updates on its U.S. 50 Tahoe Stateline to Spooner Summit Repaving Project.

PAVING 24-HOUR WORK:

Crews will begin open-grade paving (final top inch surface of asphalt) at 7 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22 to 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26, from Zephyr Cove to Lakeridge (0.7 miles south of Cave Rock tunnels) in both northbound and southbound lanes.

PERMANENT STRIPING:

  • Now until Friday, Sept. 26 at 7 a.m. crews will install permanent striping and pavement marking (lane lines, crosswalks, stop bars) from Stateline to Round Hill Pines at night, where paving has been completed
  • Striping process includes: a) A shallow recess is ground into the new pavement, so snowplows don’t scrape the painted stripe in the winter; b) Epoxy paint is applied by a striper truck. Small glass beads are applied to the fresh paint to increase brightness at night.

GUARDRAIL, BARRIER RAIL, ITS:

  • 24-hour work from 8 p.m. Sundays until noon on Fridays through Oct. 15 with installing guardrail, barrier rail, and curb and gutter north from Zephyr Cove to Cave Rock. Approximate times for guardrail work is 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.; barrier rail removal/prep 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and barrier rail pours 3 a.m. to noon.
  • ITS conduit is continuing from Cave Rock to Spooner Summit with the trunk line – the conduits for fiber optic cable – working hours are 9 p.m. to 4 p.m.

ALL WORK ZONES

  • No lane restrictions expected on weekends.
  • A minimum of one lane in each direction will stay open at all times.
  • Drivers can anticipate moderate travel delays through the work zones.
  • Speeds will be reduced to 35 mph through work zones.
  • While access to businesses and residences will be continuously maintained in most areas, certain side streets and driveways will temporarily be impacted as roadway excavation takes place in the immediate area. Steel plates and earthwork will then be used after excavation to reestablish side street access.
