EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. – A California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer traveling on US50 in El Dorado County spotted a driver going 73 mph in a 65 mph zone near the Ponderosa Road exit in Shingle Springs on September 26 at 9:53 p.m. The officer pulled over the driver, Jorge Luis Carillo-Gomez, for speeding.
The CHP Officer had a K9 with him, so the dog walked around the suspect’s vehicle, alerting the officer to possible drugs inside. In the vehicle, CHP found 81.25 pounds of methamphetamine.
Carrillo-Gomez was arrested on two felonies – Transport/etc controlled substance and Possess controlled substance for sale. His bail has been set at $6 million, and he is currently in the El Dorado County Jail in Placerville.
The suspect was arraigned in El Dorado County Superior Court on Wednesday. The El Dorado County District Attorney’s office is handling this case, and the preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 15, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. in Department 2.
